Why Should You Study Cloud Computing?

When I first founded Techedge Academy, I had multiple conversations with several people in the IT business.

Some of them are the best system administrators I’ve ever met, while others have been in the control room of large IT infrastructure for years; all of them are now in a difficult position: they must improve their skills as quickly as possible because cloud computing is essentially changing their jobs. Totally.

System Administrators: it’s not the end of your career

Cloud computing does not eliminate the necessity for system administrators. Small businesses and corporations will continue to require employees with in-depth understanding of their IT infrastructures; what is changing is essentially what a system administrator should be able to perform.

A deep understanding of Linux and Windows Server is still required, but the goal now is to be able to work with code, infrastructure design, and specifically, most of the things that are now in the middle, between code development and infrastructure design/management.

DevOps is the correct term, and it was coined by our cloud computing market. If you are unfamiliar with this term, you have a lot to learn.


All of today’s cloud computing systems, from AWS to Rackspace and Google Compute Engine, have an API set to deal with. Our applications, whether mobile or not, communicate with the infrastructure directly via many API calls; you cannot manage a new AWS infrastructure for your clients unless you have a thorough understanding of APIs and basic coding skills.

Scalability has been taught to system administrators as “install extra servers and get a load balancer.” That is now history. In the cloud, you must establish a clear strategy for scaling your infrastructure and integrating it directly into your application: to do so, you must communicate with developers and speak their language.

Learning cloud computing is now a must whether you work in the IT sector at any level, but especially if you used to be a system administrator or freelancer.

Cloud Computing Jobs Market, it’s getting huge

If you look at the expansion of the cloud computing business, you will see that firms all over the world are looking for more cloud computing specialists, both for private and public environments. This is due to the fact that more businesses are shifting away from traditional server architecture and toward cloud solutions.

Having specific skills for a cloud computing platform like AWS is obviously required, but there are many technologies involved and a plethora of additional tools to learn:

  1. Puppet: It is a tool for declaratively managing the configuration of Unix-like and Microsoft Windows systems. Using Puppet’s declarative language, the user describes system resources and their states.
  2. Chef: Chef is a Ruby and Erlang-based configuration management tool. It writes system configuration “recipes” in a pure-Ruby domain-specific language (DSL). Chef is used to automate the work of configuring and managing a company’s servers, and it may interact with cloud-based platforms such as Rackspace and Amazon EC2 to provide and setup new machines automatically.
  3. Python, Python is a programming language that is widely used in cloud computing infrastructures.
  4. Linux, It goes without saying that Linux is a must-have for any system administrator.
  5. AWS: strong knowledge of the list of services and ability to utilize AWS-specific tools beginning with EC2 and S3.
  6. CLI (Command Line Interface): The command line is still king in the realm of cloud computing.
    You understand what it means if you utilize AWS.
  7. Scalability concept: Scalability is the capacity to construct scalable infrastructures and employ Cloud Computing to avoid a single point of failure.
