Apple has introduced the Apple Watch SE. The new smartwatch, an update to the original SE, is the second iteration of the company’s entry-level, cellular-capable device. The new SE will cost $249 for the GPS variant and $299 for the cellular model, which is a $30 decrease from the original SE. The Apple Watch SE will be available on September 16th and can be pre-ordered immediately.

The Apple Watch SE will include the crash detection function introduced on the Apple Watch Series 8 and will be up to 20% faster than the first-generation SE due to the new S8 chip, which is also found in the Series 8. The new SE watch is available in silver, midnight, and starlight in 40mm and 44mm sizes, with new color-matched rear covers. The 44mm GPS devices cost $279 and the cellular models cost $329.

According to the business, the crash detection feature is only activated when the user is traveling in a vehicle. The two new motion sensors — an upgraded gyroscope and a new accelerometer — can determine the moment of impact and notify emergency services and the user’s emergency contacts automatically.

The new Apple Watch SE also supports foreign roaming by syncing with an iPhone’s roaming plan. It keeps all of the original SE’s standard features, including a Retina OLED display, optical heart rate sensor, fall detection, emergency SOS, sleep monitoring, and 50-meter water resistance.

The cellular version of the SE is popular among parents searching for a means to contact school-aged children without committing to an iPhone. Apple confirmed that the new SE will operate with the SE’s Family Setup function.

This allows you to set up an Apple Watch SE using the iPhone of a parent or caregiver. However, the device can then function independently. The less priced Apple Watch Series 3 did not have this capability. In addition, the redesigned SE has a 30% bigger screen than the Series 3. (the same size as the first-gen SE). The Apple Watch Series 3 has been officially discontinued, making the SE the entry-level model.
