A day after its launch, the Blue Origin rocket failed in mid-flight. As a result, the rocket aborted its cargo capsule and crashed into the Texas desert. The rocket that crashed yesterday had previously flown eight times. Blue Origin’s suborbital space tourism program has flown 31 people.

Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ space company, has had a rocket fail mid-flight just a day after it took off. Blue Origin tweeted a video of the capsule firing emergency thrusters to separate from its booster rocket.

After aborting its cargo capsule to safety, the rocket crashed into the Texas desert. The crash occurred just over a minute after lift-off, approximately 5 miles above the ground, when the engine of the New Shepard booster flared during the ascent.

The booster crashed within the designated hazard area, according to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The NS-23 mission was the first uncrewed New Shepard launch of the year and the fourth mission of 2022. The rocket has previously flown 31 people eight times.
