WhatsApp Working on Editing Messages on Android: Report

In order to read edited text messages, WhatsApp users may need to update their app in the future.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to edit sent text messages. This feature was reportedly discovered in the most recent beta build of Whatsapp for Android. Once the feature is released, it appears that recipients of an edited message will also need to update their client to the latest build in order to read it. This feature is said to have been in the works for several months on the Meta-owned platform. In May, the edit message option was discovered in another Android beta version of WhatsApp.

According to WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp feature tracker, the Meta-owned platform is working on a feature that will allow users to edit sent text messages.

For the time being, it is unknown whether there will be a time limit for editing sent text messages. This feature’s expected public release date is also unknown at this time.

According to the report, users will need to update their WhatsApp clients to the latest build in order to read edited text messages received or sent via a linked device.

The same functionality was discovered in an earlier beta version of WhatsApp for Android. It appears that in order to edit a previously sent text message, users will need to long press the text and select a new Edit option from the pop-up menu, which currently includes Info and Copy options.

WhatsApp appears to be working on several new features for its Android client. Another recent report claims that it is working on allowing Android users to export and import their Google Drive chats offline. This backup is thought to contain the entire chat history, media files, and other documents. This feature is said to be nearing completion for beta users of the app’s Android version.
