Mystery Exposed – Was Jesus truly born on the 25th? The real date.
While many Christians commemorate the birth of Jesus on December 25, he was most likely not born on this day. The date of December 25 may have been chosen because it is near to Saturnalia, a Roman celebration honoring the deity Saturn. The first mention of December 25 as Jesus’ birthday dates back to the fourth century A.D., more than 300 years after his birth.
According to ancient sources, early Christians were never able to agree on a date for Jesus’ birth, and many Orthodox Christians still commemorate Jesus’ birthday on January 6 or 7. Finally, it is doubtful that the date of Jesus’ birth will ever be determined – in fact, even the actual year is unknown, though academics generally agree that it occurred sometime around 4 B.C.
