Since Selena Gomez blogged about her laminated brows (yep, this revived drama was sparked by brows), my social media page has been flooded with internet sleuths deconstructing Justin Bieber’s ex and his present wife of four years.
To be clear, Selena and Hailey’s alleged drama isn’t just about their overlapping connections with the former teen heartthrob. I’d know since I spend nearly four hours a night on my phone, scrolling through videos of tattoo comparisons, pictures of previous tweets, and former award show appearances in search of some semblance of celebrity strife.
However, after hours of research, I’ve come to the conclusion that this claimed conflict is nothing more than rumor. than maybe that’s why we’re all so invested: we have nothing else to go on than hints.
It all started last month when Selena Gomez uploaded a video to TikTok in which she admitted to “accidentally laminated my brows too much” – because we’ve all been there. Hours later, Kylie Jenner entered the chat when she shared a photo of her own eyebrows to her Instagram story, writing: “this was an accident ?????”
The Kylie Cosmetics founder then shared a screenshot of her FaceTime call with pal Hailey Bieber, with a close-up of their brows occupying up half the screen, to her Instagram story.
The internet, of course, did what the internet does. Fans immediately assumed Kylie’s Instagram story was a dig at Selena’s beauty, causing her to issue a response. “This is reaching,” she said in response to a viral TikTok video. “I never throw shade at Selena, and I didn’t see her brow posts!” You’re creating something out of nothing. This is ridiculous.”
